Howard Wright started sailing in the mid-eighties on his "Flying Fifteen" designed by the late Uffa Fox, and began crewing on larger keel boats in numerous regattas. His understanding of sailing and photography have given him the skill to produce powerful images that capture the "Spirit of Sailing".
He began his career as a graphic designer, establishing a successful design studio in Sydney in 1981. Howard was employed by S.O.C.O.G at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. His passion for sailing and photography grew after photographing the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race in 1983. He has since photographed many major yachting events including Rolex Sydney Hobart, Louis Vuitton Trophy, BOC Challenge, Whitbread Round the World Race. His images have appeared in yachting publications and books, including David Adam's "Chasing Liquid Mountains" and Jessica Watson's " True Spirit " published recently by Hachette Australia.
He likes photographing in extreme conditions and is quite at home hanging from a helicopter in order to get that "special" image. His images reflect his commitment to his work and valuable clients.
Howard currently lives in Sydney, Australia. When he's not behind his Canon camera you'll find him sailing on Yowie Bay (a beautiful little estuary a stone's throw from his residence) accompanied by his family, friends and his cat called "Duplo".
